"It first began as a five year old helping my Dad take down old barns, reusing the lumber for pony stalls. From that moment on, I knew the construction industry was in my future. The draw for me to our historic hardwood flooring is that MLC offers the industry the best of both worlds; the old and the new, history and technology, classic beauty with all the bells and whistles."
After being in the banking industry for years I came across Mountain Lumber Company and was surprised to realize that I could actually feel passionate about what I do every day. There are few companies that respect the environment, integrity of their product, and customer relationships as much as this one, and the wood is just plain beautiful. This industry is exciting and there is much to learn...I love passing that knowledge along. The company inspired my family and me to move to Charlottesville and embrace an even bigger family with Mountain Lumber Company. You may even do the same when you see our floors!
"My background is interior design. I also spent many years engrossed in fund raising for public schools in my native state of Texas. It's always been my desire to represent products that I do not have to make excuses for, and at Mountain Lumber that is always the case."
Mountain Lumber....Well, I was raised on the Southern salt water coast on Marine Corps bases. They are in the midst of some of the most beautiful landscapes anywhere. After traveling & working in many other such places and reading ecology based literature; Silent Spring, Janisse Ray, etc., the result is a fervent desire to not lose what's left of these places. One of the best ways to be conservative about these places is recycling. Couple that with the historical significance of Mountain Lumber's sources, I find it's easy to have passion about what we do. Every day.
" Hailing from Baltimore, MD I transplanted myself to Charlottesville in 1990 to start a career with Mountain Lumber Company. I have been working in and around the construction industry for just over 40 years. In that time, almost 18 years has been devoted to the clients, the employees and the products of Mountain Lumber Company™. What keeps me coming back is the prevailing warm friendly atmosphere , the golden rule that the client comes first and products that are beyond compare. This has never been a job... Its almost as fun as golf,..Well...almost..."
If you have timbers and/or decking to sell:
"I started Mountain Lumber when I discovered how beautiful ancient wood could be once fully refurbished. For more than thirty years I have traveled around the world to bring back pieces of history - wood from sources such as breweries, box cars, factories, warehouses and even temples. I love the ability to share the finished flooring with you; regardless of whether it is highly refined or extremely distressed, all of our flooring imparts a unique and deep sense of history."
