Mountain Lumber searches the world for specialty woods like our European Cooper's Oak, reclaimed from cider mills, breweries, and distilleries. Coopers (barrell makers) hand-crafted the vats -- some as large as 60,000 gallons -- with English Brown Oak, the only wood with the strength and grain required to withstand the hard wear of the trade. The coopers crafted new casks and repaired leaky knots in older vats with hand-carved wedges, which can still be seen in our flooring.
This renovation, in a Charlottesville, Virginia home, used Strongbow and Scrumpy Jack to bring a distinctive British character to an otherwise traditional home.
